So, with such a warm welcome (and some lovely cake), the trip has got off to a wonderful start. Day 2 involves inspecting the land. We have the land, we just desperately need the buildings!
The site looks good. The boundary wall is up and we have a bore well in place with sweet water and the electricity has now arrived at site too. It will be excellent to get the buildings all sorted. All you fundraiser out there and potential sponsors, this project needs you!
Actually, it’s more than a project, currently it’s real lives we are affecting here – over 50 of you include the cook, house mum, house dad and the wonderful Rani, who keeps us all in check. I wish we had some Rani’s in the UK, life would work much more effectively.
I spent some time with the children at lunch time. Lunchtime is always a bit of a blur, but it’s all done with the utmost of efficiency and runs like a well-oiled machine. I can see where the 425 kgs of rice goes each month. A fantastic investment for these wonderful children (remind me to tell you about our Jyothi)…
Off to meet with the Principal of the school this afternoon. A wonderful man, it’s a real treat to see how a school of 1400 pupils run. He knows all of the children and is an exam to us all – given his resources – I don’t know how he does it.
We always check with the Principal to see how the children are doing at school. We always receive their report cards but we just like to put a meeting in the diary to check that they aren’t experiencing any issues at school that we might need to address.
I’m pleased and actually proud to report that he evens knows the grades of some of our children and how pleased he is with their progress, out-performing children from normal family environments (remind me to tell you about Jyothi later)…
