If you missed the news, there have been a few articles around the crisis in March 2021 with ISIS fighting in the north of Mozambique. Some articles were just too tough to read, with headlines such as ‘children being beheaded’… As a result, thousands of families have been displaced and you have children (and adults) living with severe trauma, PTSD and other mental affects of what they have experienced and witnessed during this terrible time.
Our trustee’s reached out to World Vision in Mozambique to see if there was anything we could do. Their stories of recent conversation with children in April 2021 are truly heart-breaking.
The best we can do, at the moment, is to send funds to help those currently displaced and living in refugee type settlements. Funding for buckets, soaps, feminine hygiene products, sandals, toiletries general, towels etc. And then there’s basic schooling tools like books, pencils, erasers, bags for children going to make-shift schools who have lost everything when fleeing for their lives. And let’s not forget some toys: these are children who desperately need some form or normality.
So, we are doing a fund-raising appeal: to send monies directly to World Vision directly in Mozambique so they can buy the supplies locally. We hope to raise at least USD$10,000 to supply basic schools supplies for 1000 children, and buckets/soap/hygiene products for 500 people. If you would like to help, please go to charitycheckout in our Sponsor/Projects page and and when you make a donation, please quote MOZ APPEAL and 100% of the funds will go towards relieving some of the hardships these children are going through.
