Our objective is to get all of our projects self-supporting. These need an initial investment to get them up and running. The needs range from buying gardening equipment, to running a vegetable plot or allotment, to buying machinery for providing some form of commercial output.
These will be culturally relevant and specific to the local needs and availability. We will never try to ‘sell coal to Newcastle’.
Mozambique Appeal 2021
We are doing a short fundraiser to support World Vision supply basic school supplies and sanitary items & buckets to people displaced by the recent fighting in the north of the country. You can read about the appeal in a separate page.
During 2018 we were investigating the best way to get the India Project to become self-sufficient. We don’t want to fund a ‘start-up’ or ‘business’ that is not viable and will cease to operate within months. We had a few ideas but they need the right people to help plan and create a functional organisation/ process. It’s more difficult than it sounds – we are mindful that the monies we receive are given in good faith and we have a responsibility to ensure that it is wisely invested!
Update 2020: COVID-19 has given us pause to sit back and rethink. Syam & Shantha need a break and have struggled to find the right staff to take over. With the lock-down and other government restrictions, the home has had to close regardless. As such, children are now attending school directly from their family homes for the foreseeable future. As such, the home itself will remain shut until at least June2021 at which time, the charity will look to the ‘what next phase’. The buildings remain in charitable trust and there are staff living on-site to maintain the buildings. Our charity will continue to support those still attending school as day scholars and those who are currently in University.
