Afternoon is here!
No school, no study, some chores, but plenty of play time!
Once again we brought the usual – skipping ropes, cricket bat, badminton set and although we thought we had more left at the home from last visit – the new stuff we brought was all we saw. Makes life a little difficult sharing 2 skipping ropes between 20 girls – especially when I’m here and have sooo much more skipping to teach them. The first time I came here, we brought skipping ropes and I could see that the girls could skip. But it was boring skipping – 1 person at a time – so I mixed it up a bit by teaching them new skipping skills. 2 at once, 2 at once and one spinning round, 2 people holding the rope and one in the middle spinning round and a bit of double-dutch too – I’m glad to see that they have been practising… however, still not enough ropes to go round – still need to crack double-dutch.
The boys love cricket and we have some demon batsmen and bowlers. I was out for a golden duck – to be fair the wicket wasn’t what I was used to and I had had no time to get used to it. I also think there had been some ball-tampering going on – the stitching was looking a bit ropey… I’m not a sore loser at all! Badminton went down a storm too. Note to self – we need more equipment. There definitely wasn’t enough of us to go round, they all have things they want to show us that they can do – not enough time and not enough of us…
So, games over and it time for some housekeeping – hand-washing your own clothes – taking a bath in public for the boys – all part of a Sunday off. We need to get the buildings up ASAP. I know this is India and I know these things are acceptable, however, these wonderful young people deserve better.
So suppertime, another fantastically cooked, tasty, hearty meal. No wonder these guys are all flourishing physically. Study time? How did I get that wrong? Ah well, all for a good cause – more study, means more knowledge. More knowledge means better chances of just getting by.
School tomorrow – booo!
