Home > Have Faith India > Our journey to India – we have arrived

We’ve arrived in India and we have been greeted by Syam and the entourage. We have helpers with us this time, in the form of Peter and Kathy, so two cars are needed to get us all and the luggage from the airport.

We also have all the books and gifts donated from friends, relatives and small groups, which means we look like we’re moving house. However, in india – that just looks normal.

The journey was the bet we’ve ever had. India have improved their infrastructure somewhat in he past 14 months since my last trip. All makes for a wonderfully calmer journey. Anyone who has been to India will know exactly what I mean.

We arrived at the hostel and the children were waiting. It was a really warm welcome and there are a few new faces since my last visit. A few more new names to learn – always fun and I’m sure gives ten a giggle too, listening to us trying to get our mouths around their names.

I confess to not being happy about the new accommodation we have had to move the children into. It’s more cramped than the old place and there is less area to cook and serve meals in. And just as importantly, less room to play in. We need to get this building up ASAP.

It’s Sukumar’s 8th birthday today. What a great day to arrive. This means cake! Happy birthday Sukumar!

Although on reflection, he is having to have his birthday in a hostel. How many 8 year olds’ birthday parties do you know that take place in an orphanage/hostel. But, at least it had me at the party and we had cake! BTW – we always celebrate our childrens’ birthday with a cake and it’s really quite moving to experience how the other children share in this experience. For some of our children this will be the their third year of celebrating birthdays in our hostel.
