Sorry for the late post but we had an awesome weekend.
Saturday saw the children off to Church in the morning – big church and lots of hostel children there – 500 easy – our 50 children got swallowed up by the others – but safe to say, we still stuck out a mile – neatly dressed and well-behaved.
After Church we had lunch with the children. Lovely lentil dahl and rice. After lunch the children had some weekend studying to do – boring for us – good for them. Then… it’s showtime! The children wanted to put on an entertainment afternoon for us. It started with singing, then we had some superb acting, some very fine dancing, more acting, more singing and more dancing. We have some absolute superstars here – I’m not just saying that because I’m biased, it’s true – some real performers. What a wonderful gesture, with less than a week’s preparation and all because the children wanted to. It really warmed our hearts. I am happy to report, I resisted the urge to sing back to them! I even got to teach them a new game whilst filling in time ‘til supper – instead of Simon says, we played Neil says. I like this game! Such obedience – let’s see if it works on the wife..
Lovely supper tonight – lots of treats and we dished out, goodie bags made up from items donated to us from folks back in the UK. They were the simplest of party bags really, but Syam summed it up, by saying they were only little gifts, but they were made big – because they were given in love…
These children are soooo happy, even with the little gifts of pencils and erasers and balloons etc… they are happy, but deserve more…
