We are all waiting with anticipation to get the foundations for the building in place. We’ve had our gift aid back and through the combination of some fundraising and a personal loan, we can start the building work.
No wait, actually we can’t – the local government officials are on strike – so we have to wait for that to finish! Andhra wants its own state governance and they have been in deadlock with the Indian Government for nearly 60 days now. This means we can’t get anything done from a buildings perspective – which means the clock is ticking away and eating into our regulatory “must start before” date for our authorised building plans.
There was a plus side though. It meant that the political instability pushed the sterling to rupee exchange rate up, and with the brilliant exchange rate at the time, the 7.9% charged by the bank is wonderfully offset by the 30% increase in the rate. Which is why we stuck our necks out and got a loan, rather than continuing to wait for fundraising to arrive.
We still need to fill in the rest of the building when the foundations are done. So any help is greatly appreciated.
