2014 is suddenly upon us and we realise it’s been way too long since our last update. We are hoping to get a volunteer in the not so distant future, to help with updates and general sponsorship ‘stuff’.
Syam (our partner in India) has returned full time (he has swapped with his wife, who is now back in the UK), and he is managing the home and the building project – building project???? Yes, we are very pleased (and excited) to update you on that front. We have included some pictures of the recent building that is going on, on the land we helped to purchase a few years ago.
There is now a meeting hall, ablution blocks, offices/staff accommodation (phase 1) and almost a complete first phase of the children’s accommodation. It’s quite a feat – there were x50 labourers on site on Wednesday, 29th January, to lay the roof/first floor slab. This means there are (very deep) foundations, pillars to hold up the roof/first floor ….and we need to fund-raise for the walls, windows and doors now.
Our Indian partners are building as we can afford. The building costs of India have sky-rocketed over the last year and the weather conditions have added to the price increase. So we have made the decision to provide funding in order to purchase building materials, and do what we can to ensure that they build as much as possible before the prices rise again.
